Driving through the affluent Long Island, New York, on my way to the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club, I couldn't help but notice the stark contrast between the luxurious yachts in the marina and my trusty 2012 Prius C. The young boy's pitying look at my car made me realize there are different levels of wealth in this area. As I navigated the traffic, I couldn't help but think about the exclusive lane for authorized vehicles only, a privilege reserved for the elite. The U.S. Open, a prestigious golf tournament, seemed to highlight the wealth disparity in the country, with the 'trade parade' workers often blamed for the traffic, when in reality, it's the wealthy homeowners who demand their services. The experience made me reflect on the value of money and the simple truth that happiness comes from within and the people we choose to spend our lives with. My Prius, a practical and reliable companion, has taken me on countless adventures, and I feel lucky and content with what I have. While I wouldn't mind playing a round at one of the exclusive golf courses, I realize that true happiness doesn't come from material possessions or special treatment. It's a reminder that we should appreciate the little things and the people around us, rather than seeking validation from wealth and status.
